I Want To Be a Part of It...

...New York, New York!

Yippee skippee! I am going to NYC! Suh-weet! I have never been. I have only been to the East Coast once. I went to DC with a couple of my girlfriends. It was one of the best trips ever! We did the museum thing by day and the drinking thing by night. So fun!

So I am going to NY FINALLY! I am going with my aunt. It helps that I get the fatty hookup at the Hyatt. And it helps that my aunt has been several times before. I told her that I trust her to help me make the most of my four days there (which I know is not a lot of time).

So, my well-traveled readers, do any of you have a list of "must-sees" for me? I would like suggestions on bars, stores, restaurants, etc...

I know you all have great taste, so I trust you to send me places that are fun and different. So get thinking and let me know!!

If you have to hit a museum when you're in NYC, I recommend the Met (not MOMA).. it's bigger and has better things, but it's huge and hard to get through in one day.

Mel, NYC is one of my favurite cities in the whole world. Obviously check out all the usual sites - Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building etc.

It's been a while since I was in NYC so I can't remember street names etc. But I'll try to give directions -

There's an amazing Jazz Bar in Harlem, up past the top of the west side of Cenral Park.

And there's a great Mexican restaurant just off Times Square - stand facing the big screen and it's on the street to your right

Oh, and there's a great bagel shop on second avenue, up around 47th street.

I know - pretty vague. But if I was there with you I could take you there. When are you going? Maybe I could use a holiday ;)

sweet!

last time i went, i got really sick, so i can't really remember much about new york right now. but you definitely have to have pizza there. there ain't NOTHING like new york pizza. if i were loaded, i'd fly back at least weekly for it.

if you're into broadway shows...that's fun...

i only know of two gay bars/clubs- ruby fruits and henrietta's. both lesbian clubs, if you're interested. i never got to go, but apparently, there are some hotties there! :P

I love New York! It's the greatest city in the world.

This sounds touristy, but go to the Hard Rock Cafe. Also, in Times Square there is the biggest Toys R Us. (Yep, I'm a child sometimes.)

If you want to meet Baseball players, which may not be the case since your Aunt is with you, there is a little place on the Upper East Side called Dorian's Red Hand. It's an awesome place and a lot of Yankees go there. (More during the season, of course.)

Don't miss out on going to the Statue of Liberty, the top of the Empire State Building and go to a real Broadway show. You'll love it.

When are you going? I'm going in May.

you should rent a car and drive 7 or so hours north and come see me. :P

oh, and one time i was there there was this cool ring-watch vendor on some street corner that i got this really cool ring-watch from. you should look for him. of course that would have been the trip in um.. 1992? but i am sure he's still there.

You HAVE to go to Ground Zero. It's probably starting to get rebuilt, but that's just a given.
Take the double decker bus around town for a quick tour.
Not sure if you like shopping for knock-offs, but if you do, get your behind to Chinatown.
I will have to ask my sister the name of this awesome Brazilian Restaurant (I'll be in touch).
I like central park just because it's huge, but you will see that from anywhere, most likely.
Food advice -go in the small cafes that you think won't have much. You usually get a lot of food for 5-10 bucks and it's fresh and delicious.
Go see the balls on the Wall Street Bull. That's always a fun photo shoot, and last but not least, go to Times Square. That's a must see. Just look up and take it all in. Have fun!!!

Dude. I'll be in NYC, visiting my brother & going to a conference at the end of this month.

Touristy stuff you have to see?
Times Square
Statue of Liberty
Rockefeller Center
Today Show
Good Morning America, etc.
David Letterman Theater

If you'll be there for awhile, you could probably try to see a taping of SNL, Comedy Central's Daily Show, Letterman, etc.

My favorite stuff in NYC is looking at designer knockoffs in Chinatown, eating pizza at John's of Bleecker Street, and fabulous fixed price brunches anywhere on Sunday. The last 2 places I ate brunch were Cibo, near Grand Central, and Dizzy's in Brooklyn. Yummy.

Oh, and bring comfy shoes, cuz there's a lot of walking. But I always hoof it & take the subway when I'm there.
